Claire Beauchamp Randall, a nurse at the height of the Second World War, was on a second honeymoon in Scotland with her husband Frank when she chanced upon an ancient circle of stones.

She touched one, and something strange happened.

She's managed to stay in exactly the same place, but with a two-hundred-year time difference.

[Claire is most recognizable by her extremely curly brown hair (which frequently springs free of its pins, much to her consternation) and her whiskey-colored eyes (some have remarked that they resemble something close to a leopard's, or a hawk's). At five-foot-six, she is average height for a woman of the twentieth century, but much taller than women her age when she falls back through time.

She possesses a diverse medical knowledge, and as of this point in the series has a intermediate understanding of plants and their uses. ]
